A Houston man is in custody and accused of human smuggling. A Department of Public Safety trooper stopped a pickup truck that was towing a cargo trailer on U.S. Highway 77 in Kennedy County on Monday.
A search of the trailer turned up a false wall that concealed 16 illegal immigrants crammed into an unventilated space.
The troopers arrested 42-year-old Anthony Johnson of Houston on 16 counts of human smuggling with the likelihood of injury or death. Border Patrol took custody of the illegals.
