Governor Greg Abbott says law enforcement officers are working to create a database that tracks people associated with a Venezuelan crime gang.

Abbott signed a proclamation on Monday that declares Tren de Aragua a foreign terrorist organization. The gang is involved in trafficking people and drugs, and has operations in Central America and the United States, including Texas.

Declaring the gang a foreign terrorist organization means its members could face stiffer criminal sentences as well as civil penalties.
