A murder suspect wanted by McAllen police is under arrest – caught during an attempt to smuggle him back into the U.S. DPS troopers had begun chasing a suspected smuggling vehicle Tuesday afternoon near the La Lomita Mission in south Mission. The pursuit ended a short distance away and troopers arrested 30-year-old Eliezer Morales and two suspected smugglers.
Morales is accused in the late 2023 death of Raymundo Martinez-Gutierrez. The victim had been shot multiple times inside his vehicle by suspects in another vehicle. He was found dead after his car had crashed into a building along Business 83 near 29th Street.
