The Texas Democratic Party has a new chairman. The state party’s governing board elected Kendall Scudder on Saturday. Scudder takes over for longtime former chair Gilberto Hinojosa, who announced his resignation shortly after the 2024 elections.
President Donald Trump and GOP Senator Ted Cruz won their races by wider margins than expected in Texas, and the Democrats lost state legislative seats, judges, and Hispanic voters. Hinojosa resigned in the middle of his four-year term, so another election for the state chair will take place in 2026.
